MilledolerdoorsquareThe SAS Dean's Office is responsible for ensuring compliance with University and School of Arts and Sciences employment policies, procedures, union contracts, and accepted practice with respect to faculty and staff matters. To that end, the Office of Human Resources has been established to provide administrative direction, coordination, and implementation of employment programs and procedures at the School, in collaboration with University Human Resources, the Office of Academic Affairs, and University Counsel. The Office of Human Resources, under the direction of Karalyn Gallagher, has responsibility for managing personnel issues for all faculty and staff at SAS from hiring through termination.

OUR MISSION:  The Office of Human Resources partners with academic departments to provide comprehensive support and guidance on matters pertaining to human resources, employment policy, and payroll in convenient and confidential manners.

TA/GA Notification Period: Currently employed Teaching Assistants and Graduate Assistants must be notified on or before April 30, 2020 of their reappointment status for the coming academic year. Those Teaching Assistants and Graduate Assistants who are only to be appointment for the Fall semester must be notified on or before October 31, 2020 of their status for the Spring 2021 semester. Sabbaticals and Returns: We will be sending a spreadsheet and copies of award letters to OneSource for processing Fall 2020 Sabbaticals. Individual departments no longer have the ability in HCM to process leaves. We will also notify OneSource of any faculty that are returning as of July 1, 2020. 4/2/2020: The Office of the University Controller has scheduled a number of virtual classes for the Financial Management System (FMS). A detailed listing of the virtual classes for the month of April 2020, including descriptions and dates, is available on Cornerstone Registration website under the Financial Management category. 


4/1/2020 New Employee Beneift Orientations: UHR has made the decision to cancel the in-person New Employee Orientations scheduled for Monday, April 6th through Monday, April 27th. As additional guidance is provided, this time frame may be subject to change.

New employees should continue to be registered for New Employee Orientation as usual. Employees registered to attend will receive a separate email, no later than the Friday prior to their orientation date, detailing the applicable welcome and benefits information via enclosed PowerPoint presentations and additional links. With this, they will also receive instructions on form submission and deadlines. 3/17/2020: Payroll Services strongly recommends that you enroll in the payroll direct deposit program as the situation with COVID-19 continues. If you choose to continue receiving Paper paychecks: 

  • Your check will no longer be delivered internally, effective the next pay period.
  • Your check will be mailed to the home address that is on file, effective the next pay period. Your current residence, or physical location, should match your home address. For example, if you are on campus, but your home address is on file, then your paycheck will be mailed to your home address, not your campus address. To avoid this, you will need to change your home address on file or enroll in direct deposit.
  • Take immediate action to review and update your home address, if necessary.
    • Sign in to the myRutgers portal and navigate to My Dashboard - Name/Photo Tile - Personal Information icon - Home/Mailing Addresses - Home Address

3/11/2020: Due to the measures determined by the university in regards to the COVID-19 virus, the SAS Administrative Seminar scheduled for 3/25/20 will be cancelled.The Active Shooter training scheduled for 3/26/2020 will also be cancelled. Both events will be rescheduled and we will send another announcement with the future dates.


2/26/2020: Please see attached memo and FAQ's from Barbara A. Lee, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, regarding the Faculty Transition to Retirement Program (FTTRP) for tenured faculty. The FTTRP is a voluntary transition program for tenured faculty members that was previously negotiated with AAUP-AFT and AAUP-BHSNJ in accordance with requirements under State law. Tenured, eligible faculty members may apply to participate in the FTTRP, effective July 1, 2020. 02/25/2020: The New Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits has recently changed their policy on the continuation of health insurance coverage when an employee terminates employment. Effective January 2020, employees who terminate employment, regardless of the effective date of termination, will have medical benefits, including health, prescription drug, and dental insurance, through the end of that month.
